History
At Hallgate, our aim is that our teaching of history will help pupils gain a knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and of the wider world. They will be taught to question and interpret evidence, form their own opinions, be inspired by the courage and innovation of others and learn from the past in order to do better as citizens of the world.
History lessons focus on developing historical skills and children working as historians. We intend for our children to have real life experiences, through theme days and events, and to learn about history in an active and creative way. Where possible, links are made to other subject areas to enable them to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Our history curriculum has been carefully designed to revisit important key concepts across different historical periods as children progress through the school. This provides the children with the core knowledge and skills required to be successful historians.
